2024 Crete Creative Community Showcase

Theme: "In the Winter"

General Information
The 8th Annual Crete Creative Community Showcase is an independent survey of art in Crete, IL, and surrounding communities. This exhibition is intended to provide a unique opportunity for artists in the far south Chicago suburbs to showcase their work within their own community.

November 23, 2024 – January 18, 2025

 

Theme
For the first time, the Community Showcase will have a theme: “In the Winter." Artists are encouraged to explore this idea in any way that resonates with them. Evoke the whimsy and wonder of winter through your interpretation of winter holidays, weather, moods or memories...


Jurors and Prizes
The 8th Annual Community Showcase will be judged by a committee of Crete Creative volunteers.

First, Second, and Third place ribbons will be awarded in the following categories:

  • Acrylic painting

  • Collage

  • Digital art

  • Fiber arts

  • Oil painting

  • Photography

  • Sculpture or Ceramics

  • Traditional pencil and/or ink

  • Watercolor painting


About Crete Creative
Crete Creative is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to supporting and promoting the creative arts in and around Crete, IL. Crete Creative produces solo and group exhibits, teaches classes for all ages, and provides collaborative space for local artists. Crete Creative is located on the second floor of the Crete Public Library at 1177 Main Street, Crete IL.


Eligibility
The Crete Creative Community Showcase is open to all artists within a 20 miles radius of Crete IL who are 16 years of age and older. Artists may enter work created in any media, with the understanding that the Crete Creative venue may not be able to accommodate all work.

How to Enter

  • Please include the following in your submission form at the bottom of this page for the 8th Annual Community Showcase.

    1. Your full name, home address, email and phone number.

    2. Photo of the art you would like for us to consider for the showcase.​

      • You may submit up to two pieces for consideration, but only one artwork per artist may be accepted. 

      • Include the title, medium, size, and price (mark NFS if it is not for sale)The competition is open to everyone aged 16 years and older; established and emerging.

      • Must be attached as a JPEG or PNG file, no larger than 1400 x 1800 pixels.

 

  • The following media will be considered:

    • Two-dimensional work including painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, fiber and digital art.

      • All pieces must be framed and ready to hang.

      • All pieces must be under 24" x 24" in size

    • Three-dimensional work including sculpture, ceramics, fiber, glass and metal may be accepted at the discretion of the Gallery Committee due to display space limitations.

  • Each accepted piece will be assessed a $20 registration fee, due when you drop off your work. No more than one one artwork per artist will be accepted. Entry does not guarantee acceptance.

  • All artwork must be original. No Trademark, Copyrighted, AI-generated or Intellectual Property infringing pieces will be accepted.

    • If working from a photo reference, you will need to originate the photo, or name the photographer as a collaborator with permission to use the photo.

 

  • Collaborative work is allowed if all artists are identified.

 

  • Proof of local residency will be required.
     

  • All work must be packed appropriately to ensure its safety during storage awaiting exhibition installation. Crete Creative is not responsible for damage due to improper packing.

  • Submitting your work for consideration does not guarantee acceptance.

 

Important Dates

Exhibition Announcement: October 2, 2024

Entry Deadline: November 10, 2024

  • Notification of acceptance: Between November 1st and November 12th, 2024.

  • Delivery of Artwork: November 16, 2024 from 10 AM - Noon @ Crete Public Library

Opening Reception: Saturday, November 23, 2024, 11 AM - 1PM CST

  • Exhibition Dates: November 23, 2024 through January 18, 2025

  • Pick-up of Artwork: January 8, 2025 from 10 AM - Noon @Crete Public Library

Equipment and Instructions
You should be prepared to provide all equipment and instructions necessary to present your art,
as needed.


Authorship and Ownership
By entering a work, you represent that you are its creator and that you either own the work or have the permission of the owner to enter it for presentation. Copyright-infringing work without a license and AI generated images will not be considered for acceptance. Artwork found to be in violation after acceptance may be removed or marked not for sale at the discretion of Crete Creative's Exhibit Committee. In this case, the $20 registration fee will not be refunded.

Loan Agreements
Artists will be required to complete a loan agreement upon delivery of artwork, including specification of insurance value, before acceptance of a work is final. 

Artwork that is abandoned and not picked up by its owner within 30 days of the final exhibition date will become property of Crete Creative.


Reproductions and Publicity
By entering your work and providing images and other documentation, you agree that any images and other materials you provide may be reproduced and published in the Crete Creative promotional and press materials and distributed via our website and social media channels. You also agree that images of your work may be reproduced in the context of the exhibition and its promotion by third parties such as journalists.


Sale of Work
All work included in the exhibition must have a value for insurance purposes. If you agree, your work may also be considered available for purchase. Crete Creative will receive a 20% commission on works sold during the exhibition. Works not for sale must be labeled NFS.
